MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, Wash. (KOIN) — The search for Kyle Bufis on Mt. Rainier has been suspended after a climber’s body was found Saturday near the summit.

Climbing rangers are retrieving the body. The body matches the description of Bufis but his identity has not been confirmed.

National Park Service officials say 25-year-old Kyle Bufis, a climbing instructor from Utah, was on the mountain with two friends Thursday evening but went missing around 9 p.m. during a period of high winds and low visibility.

NPS says the climbers were at 14,000 feet on the northern side of the mountain. The two friends safely reached camp Friday afternoon.

Rangers learned that Bufis was missing around 5 a.m. Friday. NPS rangers used a U.S. Army helicopter to look for him while dozens of people searched the mountain.
