PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County will close the Morrison Bridge to motor vehicle traffic on Sunday for inspection and maintenance work on the troublesome lift span deck.
The closure starts at 7 a.m. and could last until as late as 7 p.m. The bridge that crosses the Willamette River into downtown Portland will remain open to bicyclists and pedestrians.
Inspectors will take a look at the defective deck panels installed in 2011 and 2012 during a bridge resurfacing project that went wrong.
The county plans to replace the lift deck span in 2016
To access downtown Portland from the freeways during the closure, I-5 southbound drivers can exit at the Rose Quarter/Broadway Bridge and I-84 westbound drivers can exit at Rose Quarter/Weidler exits.
