PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Freshman Kailey Krueger has been playing softball since she was 10 years old.
She is now 14 and has taken over the pitching duties for a depleted Lakeridge High School softball team. Shes pitched every game of the season.
“At first I was really nervous because I really didn’t know what to expect but I got used to it and I really liked it,” she tells KOIN 6.
Injuries have cut the roster down to just 10 players, but Kailey is racking up the strikeouts. In a recent tournament, she pitched her first ever no hit shutout.
Her secret to striking out opponents is changing speeds.
“The change up, it’s a slower pitch – so they swing in front of it and the rise ball it rises so they miss it,” she says.
Kailey says shes going to spend the summer practicing and will be better than ever next season. Her goal is to play for the University of Oregon when she graduates from Lakeridge.
