MOLALLA, Ore. (KOIN) — Three people were sent to the hospital Monday afternoon after they were involved in a serious crash on Hwy 213 north of Molalla, officials said.

Around 3:45 p.m., 30-year-old Jason Shaw was driving southbound on Hwy 213 when his 2003 Honda Civic crossed the center line and hit another car head on, Oregon State Police said.

Shaw, who told police he fell asleep at the wheel, was transported to OHSU with potentially life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The driver of the other car, 68-year-old Janet Wollam from Portland, and her passenger, 68-year-old Barbara Mendenhall from Vancouver, were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Both directions of Hwy 213 were closed for about an hour. The investigation is ongoing.
