Shortly before 11:30 a.m., reports of smoke and flames in the back of the building were called in. Firefighters arrived on the scene within 3 minutes and found the fire had spread into the attic space, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said.

While searching the structure to ensure all residents were outside, firefighters came across a small dog, which they rescued. One cat is still missing from the home.

No injuries were reported in the fire. Three adults and 2 pets were displaced as a result of the blaze.

Investigators determined the fire started outside the home — in the backyard — and spread into the attic space. A damage estimate is not available at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
