PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Zoo’s most famous elephant, Packy, is known by zookeepers for doing thing at his own pace. So it wasn’t surprising to them it took him almost a week to move into his new space at Elephant Lands.
Packy, 53, was lured by 400 pounds of carrots and a ton of sweet potatoes, zoo officials said. Over the days before he took the steps into his new digs, he would take a few steps toward the new barn and then head back to the more familiar environment.
He finally decided to stay on Tuesday, they said.
Elephant Lands is now 85% complete.
