PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A bicyclist lost his leg after being hit by a turning pickup truck in Southeast Portland Sunday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. at SE 26th and Powell, police said. Emergency responders found bicyclist 22-year-old Alistair Corkett and rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment of his traumatic injuries.

The driver of the pickup, 42-year-old Barry Allen, was headed north on 26th while the bicyclist and his friend were headed south, officials said. The pickup turned left and hit the bicyclist. Allen was detained and released, and police said drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be factors in the crash.

Corkett is expected to survive his injuries. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with his medical expenses.
