MT. ANGEL, Ore. (KOIN) — A 3-year-old girl taken by her father on May 1 is now back safely with her mother, while her father surrendered on May 8.

Michael Waldie was scheduled to bring his daughter Grace back on May 3 but never returned. Police said Grace’s mother called his family and was told he was gone, and that his family didn’t know if they would ever see him again.

On May 5, the child’s mother told police she learned Waldie had recently quit his job.

The 32-year-old has not responded to numerous calls and texts from both his family and law enforcement, officials said. The parents are scheduled to be in court for a custody hearing on July 23.

On Thursday morning, Michael Waldie’s father returned Grace to her mother. The car Michael Waldie was driving,a 1998 Silver Audi 4-door sedan with an Oregon plate 672 GYC, was found at the grandparents house, officials said.

Waldie faces a felony warrant related to this case and turned himself in on May 8.
