Cause of crash is still under investigation

BEND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two people were hospitalized in a crash on Hwy 97 Wednesday afternoon during a hailstorm between Bend and Redmond, authorities said.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Kenneth Kayija, 28, from Bend lost control of his 2000 Isuzu Rodeo near milepost 128 and crashed into a 1995 Ford Explorer going the opposite direction, Oregon State Police said.

Arturo Rosas-Ramos, 34, from Redmond was driving the Ford Explorer when the crash occurred. A passenger in his car was sent to St. Charles Medical Center for potentially serious injuries.

Kayija was also taken to the hospital for potentially serious injuries.

Both lanes of Hwy 97 were closed for one hour as a result of the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. KOIN 6 News will have more information as it becomes available.
