PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Gerren Kirk went camping on Mount Hood in December and hasn’t been seen since. His family conducted another search Saturday and is now just hoping for closure.
“My brother went hiking last December for what was supposed to be a 3-day trip and unfortunately, we haven’t been able to locate him,” his brother Logan Kirk told KOIN 6 News. “He went missing in some pretty bad weather last December.”
Wasco County deputies found Gerren Kirk’s car at the Frog Lake Campground parking area off US 26. Although he likely had cold weather gear, there is no clue to what happened.
Now that the weather has cleared, the Kirk family wants hikers to keep an eye out for what may have happened in the Frog Lake area.
“You look at a map and it looks like something that would be totally manageable and you get out there the sheer size of the national forest is a lot bigger than some might think,” Logan said.
“We hold onto hope we can find him or at least find out where everything happened, what happened to him we might be able to have some answers to resolve some of those feelings.
The family plans to search again Sunday and others are welcome to help, he said.
“That is a really difficult thing to deal with, not having any closure and, you know, no answers, is not the way,” Logan Kirk told KOIN 6 News. “It’s really difficult to deal with for a grieving family when there is nothing to hold on to.”
