PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Woodburn Police shot a pit bull while searching a home on Gatch St. on Monday.

The officers were executing an authorized search of the home after the owner called and reported trespassers on the property.

While searching the home for the suspected trespassers, officers say a dog charged at them. They fired their weapons towards the animal, causing it to run away.

The officers then discovered and arrested Jason Ruggles, 47 and Kimberly Vega, 35, for Burglary II and Criminal Trespass II. Vega told the officers the dog was hers.

They were unable to find the dog but on Tuesday learned that a resident had found the pit bull, who was wounded and eventually had to be euthanized.
