PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Whether it’s spicing up the team photo or getting their kicks as one of the top tennis doubles duos in the state of Oregon, sisters Taylor and Emily Rees share a special bond.
“We do share that, like, sisterly bond,” said senior Taylor Rees, “and I think that really helps in doubles, just to have someone who’s like your best friend there with you, and to work hard because you both have the same goal of winning.”
Sophomore Emily and Taylor teamed up for second in the state last year, and as graduation looms for Taylor, they are doubling their efforts.
“I think we have a good chance of getting first this year,” she said.
Regardless of what happens, coach Sue Basham believes they are winners.
The sisters, she said, are “always gracious. I have had coaches and other parents thank me for the way they win,” Basham said. “They’re a class act.”
They thank their doubles matchmaker – their mom, Joyce Rees.
“They didn’t like it at first, for about a year or two,” Joyce said. Laughing, she added, “Just the sisterly, you know, the brutal honesty, you know, the looks, the sighs.”
Taylor and Emily Rees, the Athletes of the Week for April 23, 2015, are proud to be in the sisterhood of that Lincoln High tennis family.
