BETHANY, Ore. (KOIN 6) — For the second night in a row, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to a fire in an abandoned structure, officials said.
The first fire happened Wednesday night just before 9 p.m. in an abandoned home in the area of NW Saltzman and Laidlaw Road. Because no one was inside the structure — and due to a large volume of fire — firefighters fought the flames defensively.
Wednesday’s fire burned through the roof, which later collapsed, TVF&R said. The fire was contained within 30 minutes, and firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading to an adjacent structure and nearby brush.
On Thursday, another fire was reported just after 9 p.m. in the same area. Firefighters arrived on scene and found an adjacent structure had caught flame. Crews were able to quickly contain the small fire, which affected two rooms.
Fire commanders learned the property and structures are owned by Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. Both structures are abandoned homes slated for demolition. Neither of them had fire sprinklers or alarm systems.
Both fires are currently under investigation.
