VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — Trek Bicycles has issued a major recall for almost 1 million bikes for issues with the brakes.

The problem, officials said, is related to the quick release mechanism on some models made between 2000 and 2015. An open quick-release lever on the front wheel hub can come into contact with the front disc brake assembly.

Bike shops throughout Washington are fixing the bikes for fee.

Will Phillips, the manager of Vancouver Cyclery, said, “The skewers right here, when improperly installed, has a tendency to fall open and lodge itself in the rotor area.”
