PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A man in custody was taken to a local hospital after a nearly two hour standoff with police outside the Lloyd Center, Portland Police Bureau said.

The man apparently suffered a mental health crisis when he called 911 threatening to hurt police, Sgt. Pete Simpson told KOIN 6 News.

He has been transported to a Portland hospital for a mental health evaluation.

The man was armed with knives and claimed to have a gun, although police said he did not have one.

The area is contained by police and there is no apparent risk to the public at this time.
