PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The boyfriend of a woman found dead in a North Portland park Thursday has been arrested in connection with her death, Portland Police Bureau said.
Nicholas Ross Estrada, 22, was detained by police after he said his girlfriend disappeared while camping. The woman’s body was found in the Willamette River under suspicious circumstances, police said.
Officers responded to Kelley Point Park shortly after 3:30 p.m. on the report of a missing person. Authorities spoke to Estrada who said his girlfriend went missing sometime overnight while they were camping in the park.
The missing woman was not initially located, but due to suspicious circumstances, officers said they asked for homicide detectives to assist at the scene.
Divers from Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office located the 22-year-old woman’s deceased body Thursday morning in the Willamette River.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The 22-year-old man has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
