SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Just days after Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber publicly announced his resignation, a personal letter he wrote to Senator Peter Courtney was revealed.

KOIN 6 News received a copy of the letter from the office of Senator Courtney.

The letter written Thursday read, “Peter, Thanks for your candor. I will meet with Kate this afternoon to put the process into motion. Best wishes and good luck, John.”

Kitzhaber’s successor, Secretary of State Kate Brown, will be sworn in as Oregon’s governor Wednesday morning. Brown will become the first openly bisexual governor in the country.
