Lincoln County inmates caught swapping pills, coffee

Deputies: Inmate concealed pills inside his mouth

NEWPORT, Ore. (KOIN 6) – Two inmates inside the Lincoln County jail are accused of unlawfully trading prescription medications, jail officials said Tuesday.

Deputies said they discovered the illegal operation during a recent search of an inmate’s property. Officials said Ricky E. Pharr, 59, was hiding jail-issued medicine inside his mouth. He would then trade it to another man, 22-year-old Daniel Felix Garcia-Mendoza, for coffee, according to deputies.

Officers discovered that Pharr was trading two different types of prescription medication, Lt. Jamie Russell said.

Both have been charged with three counts each of unlawful barter of prescription drugs. Deputies said both remain in custody.
