Gresham PD say morning shooting was an accident

Incident initially investigated by city's gang enforcement team

GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN 6) – The shooting of a man outside a Gresham apartment complex early Tuesday morning is no longer being considered as a gang investigation, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to the Rockwood Station apartments, near Southeast 191st and E. Burnside, around 1:15 a.m. There they found a man lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound to his mid-section.

He was transported to a local hospital, where police said he underwent emergency surgery. Neither his name nor condition have been released.

The Gresham Police Department did say shortly before noon Tuesday that the man, in his 20s, appears to have been shot by someone he knows in what they are terming an accident.

Officials with the department added that no criminal charges have been filed, and all parties involved are participating in the investigation.
