PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Police say it appears that two new gun owners accidentally fired off a single round early Tuesday morning.

Police say the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 12500 block of SE Foster Road.

When officers arrived got to the Foster Meadows Apartments, they learned that a couple had recently purchased a new firearm and they were trying to put the safety on. That’s when the gun discharged, police say.

The round went into a neighbor’s closet, police say.

No one was injured.

Police have not said if the owners of the gun will face any criminal citations or charges.
