PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A woman who ran from police through Waterfront Park jumped over the seawall and into the Willamette River just after 3 a.m. Saturday.

Officers went to the area to check into a drug dealing complaint under the Burnside Bridge near Naito Parkway. They spoke with a woman, identified as Takeshia Nicole Cruz, who then ran away and jumped into the river.

PF&R rescue boats responded, as well as the Multnomah County Sheriff’s river patrol, and rescued Cruz after she swam over the base of the seawall to get out of the water.

The 35-year-old woman was arrested for second-degree criminal trespass, interfering with a peace officer and three unrelated warrants.
