MILWAUKIE, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The wheelchair a young Milwaukie man needs was stolen from outside his apartment as the family removed a Christmas tree from the living room.

Jacob Valdez has a birth defect that makes it difficult to walk more than a few feet at a time. As they took down their tree, the family put the wheelchair underneath the doorway.

“We’ve left it out there before,” said Jacob’s sister Alicia Valdez. “It’s always been safe.”

She said her brother is practically confined to their apartment without his wheelchair, which is brand new.

They filed a report with the Milwaukie police and hope someone can help her brother get his wheelchair back.
