PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A forensic psychologist who deals with this exact type of behavior was the victim of a carjacking Friday night when a woman threw a full can of beer at him and took his SUV.
Dr. Kevin McGovern was leaving work near NW 25th and Thurman Street when a woman threw the beer at him, climbed into the driver’s seat of his 2007 Ford Explorer and drove away.
“Next thing I knew I got in my car there was a woman sitting in my car,” McGovern told KOIN 6 News. “She says, ‘Let’s go,’ (and I said) ‘We’re not going anywhere,’ (and she said ‘Let’s go.'”
He said he did his best to keep his cool.
“It was bizarre, very bizarre.”
His arm was bloodied in the confrontation but he did not suffer any serious injuries. He said he finds the crime a bit ironic.
“I’m a forensic psychologist. I evaluate people who do this all the time.”
The suspect is described as a white female in her late 20s, 5-feet-8, heavy build, with red hair and wearing a black hoodie. She appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, police said.
“She got me,” McGovern said. “Thank God she wasn’t a vampire.”
Late Friday night, the Oregon State Police found his green 2007 Ford Explorer on I-205 in West Linn. They also arrested Brooke Kristin Defrees, 38, who will be booked into Multnomah County Jail.
She faces third-degree robbery, fourth-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, hit-and-run and unlawful use of a motor vehicle charges.
McGovern’s car was returned to him by police.
