PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Members of the Portland Police Bureau’s Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) recently took first place at an annual competition in Texas.

The team recently competed in the 25th annual Crisis Negotiation Competition & Seminar, which was held in Austin, Texas earlier this week. The event, sponsored by Texas State University’s School of Criminal Justice, is designed to bring “realistic training” to the teams over several days, according to the competition’s website.

Before competing in this week’s event, CNT took first place in the Pacific Northwest Regional Negotiation Competition in 2014. The national event involved 31 teams from across North America.

Portland’s CNT is made up of 26 bureau members including detectives, officers, two lieutenants, three sergeants, two mental health professionals and three technical officers.
