WASHINGTON, D.C. (KOIN 6) — By the end of the year, Millennials will likely be the largest generation living in America, according to recent data released by the US Census Bureau.

As the Pew Research Center noted Friday, that estimate marks a significant torch-passing moment in the country’s history with the Millennials surpassing of the Baby Boomers, long the largest living generation in the U.S.

Millennials, defined as those between ages 18 and 34 in 2015, are expected to be over 75.3 million by the end of 2015. According to Pew Research, American Millennials won’t peak until around 2036 due to a projected influx of immigrants.

Generation X, ages 35 to 50, should remain the third-largest living generation until 2028.
