High winds force closures, cause power outages

High winds hitting all of Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The wind storm hitting Oregon is causing power outages and closings throughout the area.

A 67 mph gust was recorded at PDX, the strongest recorded wind since 1981.

The high winds are causing system-wide delays for TriMet. Check your TriMet alerts and delays here

Power outages are far and wide. As of 10 p.m., about 83,000 customers in the Portland Metro are without power.

ODOT closed eastbound I-84 to all trucks, RVs or vehicles towing at Exit 216, which is about seven miles east of Pendleton due to the high winds.

At 4:20 p.m., Portland International Airport reported only “scattered delays” for flights. Check your PDX arrivals and departures here.

The Oregon Zoo closed at 4 p.m. and ZooLights is canceled because of the high winds.

Christmas Ships will not be held on the Willamette and Columbia rivers Thursday night because of the high winds. Both are expected back on Friday.
