PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The head of the Washington Liquor Control Board said privatizing liquor sales was “the dumbest thing we ever did in our state.”

Sharon Foster, who has been on the board since 2009, is retiring in January and is now speaking freely about her term.

She said the voter-approved privatization is to blame for higher prices and increased shoplifting of alcohol. Foster also said lawmakers should lower the taxes on marijuana if the state of Washington wants to take business from the black market.
