SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — An Ashland woman won $12.1 million in a Megabucks jackpot six weeks ago and came forward to claim it Tuesday.
Cathy Silver matched all six numbers in the October 18 drawing: 3-9-16-25-32-34. She said she’s not a regular player and bought her winning ticket at Albertsons in Ashland.
She told lottery officials she didn’t know she won until she got up at 5 a.m. the next day and checked the numbers. When she realized she matched all six numbers, she said she woke up her husband, Bud, to confirm it.
“I called my son and he asked if I’d signed the back of the ticket. I said, ‘No,’ and he told me to sign it right away. Which I did!” she in a release from the Oregon Lottery.
Over the next six weeks, she and her family worked with an accountant to put a financial plan in place.
