PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) – Police seized 42 kilos of cocaine – bound for Canada — Friday morning during a traffic stop, officials said.
Kevin Landers, 51, was arrested after being pulled over near I-205 and Northeast Airport Way.
Landers, an American citizen, lives in British Columbia, Canada, police spokesperson Sgt. Pete Simpson said.
Drugs and Vice Division Officer Scott Groshong and his drug-sniffing K-9 “Nikko” responded and searched the vehicle.
Police have not said what prompted the DVD response, or if they had been investigating Landers before the traffic stop.
Inside the vehicle, Nikko detected the odor of narcotics, Simpson said. Officers found a hidden compartment in the floor containing four duffel bags. Inside the duffel bags officers located 42 kilograms, or approximately, 92 pounds of cocaine.
Landers was lodged into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
His bail was increased to $1 million.
Landers is expected to appear in court Monday afternoon.
