RIDGEFIELD, Wash. (KOIN 6) — Jeff Lightburn isn’t able to put up his Christmas light displays any more, so he hired someone to do it.
The problem is they never took them down and he never saw them again.
Lightburn said he hired All Fixes Handyman to do both ends of the process. But by February, after repeatedly calling and leaving message, he ended up hiring someone else to take them down.
“That was $400 to put up my lights and take them down,” he said.
Paul Sveshnikov, a representative of All Fixes Handyman, told KOIN 6 News he just took over the business.
“All the bad reviews from customers were from a previous owner, I just took over,” said Sveshnikov.
He said Mike Wild sold the company to him about eight months ago.
This holiday, the BBB said people should be cautious about who gets hired to put up light displayes.
“The problem is a lot of those people are not licensed,” said Sophie Dichter, Oregon Public Relations Manager for the Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington
“They may not use the proper light bulbs, the proper plugs,” she said.
The BBB advises that you get the agreement in writing and pay half of the cost up front, and the other half when the job is complete.
“If you have to have someone else come out and take them down, that’s fine, but I ended up paying twice,” said Lightburn.
The new representative for All Fixes Handyman says he plans to contact Lightburn to make things right.
All Fixes Handyman of Battleground, WA currently has an “F” rating with the BBB according to Dichter.
The BBB said, “We want to encourage customers to do their homework and to check out a business first before hiring them.”
