BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN 6) — These days, if it isn’t on Amazon, it doesn’t exist.

But, if a package is delivered to your doorstep while you’re not home, it’s in prime condition to be stolen.

After police in Washington County arrested two people who allegedly stole more than 100 packages off people’s porches, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is offering several tips to help prevent package theft over the holidays.

“There are people who do nothing but drive around and steal packages, and unfortunately, most are gifts,” said WCSO Public Information Officer Bob Ray.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Have your packages delivered to your office
  • Have you packages delivered to a neighbor who is home
  • Request signed confirmation upon delivery
  • Use an Amazon locker at your local 7-Eleven, which sends you a notification email when the package arrives

Ray said the WCSO receives dozens of reports of package theft every holiday season.
