PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A young Gresham man is in jail for allegedly sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl at his mother’s unlicensed day care.
Damon Hoyer, 21, faces charges of sodomy, sexual abuse, criminal mistreatment and abuse, court records showed.
He allegedly abused the girl October 23.
Hoyer denied abusing the girl, but the probable cause affidavit said semen on the the girls’ underwear matched his DNA profile.
Hoyer said he was alone with several kids in the basement of the home, police said.
The house is in a quiet, well-established neighborhood, so when the house was sold in August, neighbors noticed the change.
“They seemed like nice people and didn’t seem like anything was really going on,” said neighbor Jason Cinpean. “As soon as they showed up, they started unloading plastic toy stuff and whatever.”
Neighbors told KOIN 6 News there never was a sign in front, either, but they said a day care was operating there.
Aimee Craig with the Oregon Office of Child Care said they took action against the facility.
“They were cited for illegal care on the 29th of October, so once we were aware illegal care was happening, one of our staff members went out and cited them.”
That was nine days after Hoyer allegedly sexually abused the little girl.
Hoyer is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center on $510,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court Nov. 18.
