ALBANY, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 19-year-old was hit by a train and killed Monday night in Albany, Ore., the Linn County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.

Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating the death of Luke Warner, of Brownsville, but believe he and his girlfriend were walking along railroad tracks near Old Salem Road when he was struck by a southbound Amtrak train.

His girlfriend, an 18-year-old from Canby, was unhurt.

Warner and his girlfriend had run out of gas on I-5 and were using the rails to guide them toward Albany, according to investigators.

Moments before the accident a railroad worker told Warner and his girlfriend the tracks weren’t safe and they should get off them, the sheriff’s office said.
