PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Homicide detectives and officers from the Forensic Evidence Division are investigating a body found along railroad tracks in Southeast Portland.

The body of an adult man, discovered Tuesday around 7:30 a.m. at SE 1st and Taylor Street, has not been identified. The cause of his death has not been determined, though police suspect the man, in his 30s, was likely killed by an overnight passing train.

Officers said the man’s body was found in a sleeping bag. There is a homeless population that lives nearby, police said.

Police on scene said they are waiting for the medical examiner to start next of kin notifications, and that there does not appear to be a danger to the public.

Railroad traffic is delayed and SE Taylor is closed from Water to 2nd Avenues.
