PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Several businesses in the Montavilla neighborhood were vandalized early Wednesday morning during a power outage.

The owner of Branch Birdie, a women and children’s bouquet store at SE 80th and Stark, said she got a phone call from her alarm company around 3 a.m.

Police told her an unknown person broke into her business and several other nearby businesses. While in the boutique, the suspect broke out the front glass door, went behind the counter and tried to steal the cash register.

The owner thinks the suspect tried to use the power outage to his advantage, but the alarm and video systems had battery backup.

The thief was unable to get away with the register but did cause damage to the wood paneling.

Police said their officers would be responding to collect video and take fingerprints.

The owner took to Facebook Wednesday morning following the break-in, posting a photo and trying to stay positive.

“Nothing like a 3am call from your alarm company… Ps we have you on video Sucker!” the post reads.

Management later said the store should be open for most of Wednesday.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 503.823.3333.
