PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — North Precinct officers checked the neighborhood around North Interstate Avenue and Prescott Street Wednesday evening after receiving a report about a man armed with a spear and a handgun.

Officers conducted an extensive area search for the suspect in this incident but did not locate anyone matching the suspect’s description.

Police said they located  a broken shovel handle that may have been the “spear” described in the call. No firearm was located, and authorities said it has not been verified that there actually was a gun used in the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build and curly, black hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants.

Based on the available information, officers said they don’t believe the public is in danger.

Officers have cleared the area and the Interstate 5 lanes to Going Street have been reopened.
