PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — After being closed for four days from a broken water main, a section of NE Sandy Boulevard re-opened late Sunday morning,
The area between NE 122nd and 138th was closed Wednesday when a 16-inch water pipe ruptured, causing water to flow into the immediate area.
ODOT officials said Sunday lane closures may be necessary over the next few weeks to complete the repair project. The sidewalk work is not finished, so pedestrians need to use caution.
On Friday, ODOT’s Don Hamilton said, “The contractor is going to be working around the clock. We’re going to get this thing repaired and get this road open as soon as possible.”
Mike Markovich, the owner of Uncle Vinny’s Eatery & Pizza, said his business was down 22% since the road closed.
“The evening business was gone. We didn’t have any. We closed early as a matter of fact,” said Markovich.
It remains unclear exactly why this water main broke. A great deal of Portland’s infrastructure is aging.
