PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The Portland International Airport worker crushed between to shuttle buses Friday night remains in serious condition, his family said in a statement.

The family of Kevin Schaffer, 49, issued a statement Sunday on the September 12 incident.

Schaffer was seriously injured on the job Friday after another shuttle bus driver left his vehicle without putting it in park. When the driver realized his mistake, he hit the gas rather than the brakes, pinning Schaffer between the two vehicles.

He remains at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

“On behalf of Kevin Schaffer and his family, we would first like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time,” said Jon Bell, Schaffer’s nephew.

An investigation from the Portland police and the Port of Portland is ongoing.
