KNAPPA, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Power has been restored to the entire town of Knappa after a small wild land fire early Sunday morning.

Fire chief Paul Olheiser said a driver along Highway 30 reported the wild land fire around 3:30 a.m. near milepost 76.

A command post was set up just west of Shingle Mill Road along Hwy. 30. The highway was closed for about an hour, but has been re-opened as of 5:15 a.m. Sunday, an emergency dispatcher.

Olheiser said the fire was about one acre in size. Crews were in the mop up stage as of 6 a.m. The Oregon Forestry Department is assisting.

There was no property damage, but a power line did fall, Olheiser said. It remains unknown if the power line came down before or during the fire. Power to Knappa was cut off for about three hours, but it has since been restored.

The town of Knappa is located about 12 miles east of Astoria, Ore.
