HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Want to know how far water purification systems have come? Local brewers are making beer from highly purified river water drawn just downstream from a wastewater treatment plant.

Mark Jockers, who organized the event to show off the high tech program, said the purified water from the Tualatin River has a sort of blank taste to it. Brewers like that, he said, because they are more able to easily customize the taste of their beers.

The water being used to make the beer is purified to a level far above federal safe water drinking standards, he said.
