PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A long-time sex offender was sentenced to nearly three years in prison over an incident where he exposed himself to a child and her mother on a bus.
Karl Frederick Deickmiller was arrested July 11 after the incident on the TriMet bus in downtown Portland.
During a police interview, Deickmiller, 52, admitted he exposed himself to numerous children.
He pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of public indecency and was given a 32-month prison term. He also apologized to the victim and heard from her mother, Maria Lewis.
“My 5-year-old doesn’t like riding the city bus anymore. She’s scared. She thinks it’s going to happen again,” said Lewis.
Outside the courtroom, she described the anger she felt the moment Deickmiller exposed himself to her 5-year-old daughter.
“Rage. I mean my eyes, they felt red. I felt that I was ready, but you know, looking down at my kids and seeing them next to me made me think, ‘OK, no, not killing this guy was the thing to do,” she said.
Deickmiller, a Texas native who has been living in Portland for 14 years, has four felony convictions and 15 parole violations.
He was convicted in 1994 of both first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sodomy, then convicted in 2001 and 2005 for public indecency.
On Thursday, a judge sentenced him to nearly three years in prison for felony public indecency and two years of supervision.
As a condition of Deickmiller’s post-prison supervision, the court strongly recommended sex offender treatment.
