HAZEL DELL, Wash. (KOIN 6) — A two-car crash Sunday evening sent one car onto the sidewalk and seriously injured a teenage pedestrian.
Around 6:15 p.m., a BMW tried to turn left into a private driveway near Columbia River High School when it was hit by a speeding Mazda, authorities said. The Mazda then careened onto the sidewalk and hit the teenager.
That Vancouver teen, whose name has not yet been released, was rushed to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
The BMW driver, 42-year-old Derek Gear of Vancouver, was also taken to the hospital, but is expected to recover. His passenger was not hurt.
The Mazda driver, 18, Chancellor Pruett, and his passenger suffered only minor injuries.
The investigation continues. No charges have yet been filed, though authorities said excessive speed and reckless driving were factors.
