PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A Portland-based company specializes in retrofitting homes to protect them before an earthquake.

EarthquakeTech.com has an easy way to prepare – an automatic natural gas shutoff valve.

Many fires that happen during an earthquake are caused by gas leaks.

These shutoff valves are made to work by keeping natural gas from leaking into your home, said Steve Gemmell of Earthquake Tech.
