LINCOLN CITY, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 9-year-old girl trapped beneath sand after a sand cave collapsed in Lincoln City on Friday has been pronounced dead, according to Jim Kruse with Lincoln City Fire & Rescue.
Lt. Jerry Palmer says police and firefighters responded shortly after 5 p.m. Friday and found a group of people trying to dig the girl out. Palmer says officers helped extract the girl, who was identified Saturday as Isabel Grace Franks, from a large hole.
“The child came out of the hole unconscious and not breathing,” said Lincoln City Police Lt. Jerry Palmer.
Officers began CPR and were relieved by North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance medical teams.
An ambulance transported Isabel to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital where she was unable to be revived.
Authorities said the 9-year-old was visiting the Oregon Coast city with her family who were at the scene when the collapse occurred.
