SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 38-year-old West Salem man was arrested hours after a bicyclist was injured when he was hit by a Jeep aroun 9:15 p.m. Friday.
Ricardo Soto, 53, was slightly hurt after he was hit, thrown into the air and landed in the road on Union Street NE near Commercial Street, authorities said.
The driver of the Jeep drove past the scene, pulled over and stopped for a few moments before fleeing.
Investigators realized that intersection has a red light camera. They looked at the picture, noticed the license plate and tracked down the owner of the car.
That man, Antonio Ramos-Perez, admitted being the driver who went through the light, but he later reported his car stolen. But, authorities said, he later admitted he hit the bicyclist, got scared, reported his car stolen and then dropped his car in a rural area of Polk County.
Authorities found his car where he said he left it.
Ramos-Perez now faces charges of felony hit-and-run and filing a false report.
Soto is expected to recover.
