PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Astronauts on the International Space Station are playing with fire, literally.

They’re conducting experiments on how fuel burns in microgravity.

An ISS astronaut tweeted some pictures and video during the experiment that looks at how quickly fuel burns, the conditions need for soot to form and how mixtures of fuels evaporate before burning.

NASA said the experiments could lead to the development of safer spacecraft and increased fuel efficiency on Earth.
