PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge has ruled that residents who challenged the county’s gun control ordinance have no legal grounds to sue.

Judge Kathleen Dailey said Thursday the five plaintiffs were in no danger of arrest.

The Oregonian reports the ruling is a victory for the county but leaves the constitutionality of the ordinance up for debate.

The ordinance approved in April of last year makes it illegal to possess a loaded gun in public in the county, with a few exceptions for hunters, law enforcement and people with a permit to carry a concealed handgun.
