PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Officers with the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division accepted a check for $60,000 from the Walmart Foundation this week, police announced.

It is the largest single year grant in the division’s 90-year history, police said.

“For an organization of our size, a grant of this magnitude will enable Sunshine Division to significantly help more people in less time with better resources.” said, Officer Phil Kent. “We’ve had an ongoing partnership with Walmart stores who have helped us feed and clothe families at the local level, we value the evolution of this partnership with such an impactful grant from the Walmart Foundation.”

The Sunshine Division offers free food and clothing assistance directly to low-income veterans, families, and seniors six days a week at a North Portland warehouse as well as 24-hours a day, 7-days a week through their partnership with the Portland Police Bureau who store food boxes at each precinct for immediate dispatch.
