TROUTDALE, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A man died early Thursday when the motorcycle he was on crashed into a deer near the airport.

Troutdale police said it doesn’t appear Michael Roland had any time to react when the deer dashed out in front of the operator on Northwest Graham Road just north of the Troutdale Airport.

The crash was reported at 5:29 a.m. by a driver who came across the scene while headed to work.

Police and paramedics responded but were unable to save Roland. The 54-year-old Gresham resident was less than a half-mile from his workplace when the crash happened.

The East County Vehicular Crimes Team is conducting the investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner.

The deer did not survive the crash, police said.
