HOOD RIVER, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The Hood River County Environmental Health Department is urging people to use caution when entering the water at Waterfront Park Beach due to high E. Coli results.

According to the health department, calm winds and warm temperatures have contributed to unusually high bacteriological activity in the waters. The results from the beach indicated fecal bacteria contamination.

Children, the elderly, and people with immune deficiencies are most at risk for illnesses after exposure to contaminated water, officials said.

The advisory only pertains to the Waterfront Park Beach and will remain in effect until water quality returns to safer levels.

Officials said no other sites tested are affected.
